What is IIS?

 IIS is Internet Information Services, is a set of internet server including Web, HTTP and FTP server with additional capabilities for Microsoft 2000 server OS.With IIS installe on your PC, that can make you PC a web server. With IIS Microsoft enters into the servers market and compete with the likes of Apache, SunMicrosystems, etc.



By default IIS is disabled on your Windows 7. If we want to have a web server for developing dynamic website or want to publish website on our own server then we install the IIS. IIS also provide the services of SMTP. With IIS you can create web pages of website with Microsoft Front Page. Web developers can use Microsoft's Active ServerPage (ASP) technology, developers can embed application that used ActiveX control into Web pages.
